Fifteen short years: is that all it takes to shed the residues of democratic society? Eoin and Natasha leave university with high hopes; and Edward attempts to persuade them of the benefits of a truly socialist society, becoming involved with left wing activists attempting to destabilise the government.
Politicians lead nations into a dystopian spiral, losing the ability to reverse the process. Their lives are controlled by the state, which offers little hope of redemption as rebellion is crushed ruthlessly and neighbours are encouraged to inform on each other.
The East has agents infiltrating Europe, where the unelected bureaucrats enjoy unparalleled power and luxury, accepting many inducements from the East, with little concern for the integrity of the issues, or long term consequences, especially for the impoverished people.
The advances in technology and increasing frustration of the people lead to a volatile mix, where nationalism and populism give rise to the amoral villain, whose only concern is for their own pleasure; willing to sacrifice all for their personal benefits. When the underworld gain access to sophisticated technology, the world is in danger; forcing the scientific community to enable the EVENT; where the sleeper logic bombs are deployed and massive bursts of magnetic pulses destroy satellites, nuclear installations and infrastructure.
