Kate Chopin was an American author of short stories and novels. The Chopin’s creation includes the feminist themes: most of her fiction is set in Louisiana and most of her best-known works focus on the lives of sensitive, intelligent women. “A Lady of Bayou St. John” is a story about a woman’s strange behavior. It tells us about Madame Delisle whose husband Gustave was away somewhere in Virginia. She was a very beautiful young lady. She was really bored in the old house on Bayou St. John, alone with her slaves. Once, she met Sepincourt – a Frenchman who lived nearby. He used the moment of her loneliness and she felt sympathy for him. He came to her very often and he fell in love. Later they found out about the war and Sepincourt asked Madam Delisle to move to Paris. She just laughed not understanding that he was serious but when she did she agreed. Soon she got the news about her husband death and that changed everything completely.
