In this, the second instalment of the Katrin Lucas story, she is still trapped nearly a century before her own time. In the first instalment she prevented a serious diplomatic crisis between England and France. This put her in very good standing with then Prime Minister Disraeli.
In this instalment she is sent to Egypt as the Prime Minister's personal emissary. He assured there was no danger. He assured there would be no need to visit any dangerous countries. He assured her new British passport would protect her from all manner of foreign difficulties. She soon learned that being favoured by a Prime Minister does not always favour the greater good.
