This second section describes the logistics and tactics of General U. S. Grant during the Vicksburg campaign and the role that maps played in his strategy. Earl B. McElfresh is a renowned cartographer and Civil War map historian. He has mapped over twenty battlefields for McElfresh Map Company, many of which were History Book Club selections. He is the author of Maps and Mapmakers of the Civil War (Abrams 1999) and is a frequent contributor to Civil War Times Magazine.
