A story of a boy who is stuck at boring school with Scarlet fever over the Christmas holidays. His parents travel over rocky seas and rickety train tracks to the city of Versailles in Paris, France. To see their sick child in the arms of this horrid sickness. The boys parents stay close in the city near where the Boy lay sick. The parents were not allowed to take their son home but were allowed visits. As many weeks follow the Parent become accustomed to their French surrounding in and out of their hotel.
The book has wonderful black and white illustrations which depict the french surrounding in which the story is set, illustrations by A.s Boyd (Alexander Stuart). Alexander Stuart was the author, Mary Stuart Boyd's husband. They collaborated their work on various occasions. They has a son, Stuart Boyd and the three of them travelled the world and Mary went on to write about their many adventures as a family.
