Maija Finehair, Viking warrior, was killed at the Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066 and transported by Valkyries across time and the heavens to contemporary New York City. After she refuses a seat at the god Odin's mead hall table in Valhalla under the Belvedere Castle in Central Park, Maija takes refuge in Astoriea, Queens where she is reunited with her father, Magnus the Believer.

Maija meets Gabriel Balderson when she finds work teaching English in Chinatown. Both Maija and Gabe lose loved ones the result of unexpected murders, and after Maija rescues Gabe from being wrongfully arrested by the police, the two flee together in an attempt to save their own lives and investigate who it is that has killed their loved ones. With funeral pyres on the East River, talking ravens, and a dragon unleashed in Central Park, this is a science fiction epic fantasy full of surprises. A Viking on the Subway draws on Biblical prophecy and Viking legend to take readers on a ride to the brink of the earth's last great battle.
