Since the days of the Pharaohs, no man of African descent has risen in the world political stage than US president Mr Barack Obama. When he was elected as the president of the most powerful nation on earth, African prophecies from the days of slave trade were remembered. Some of the prophecies talked of blissful days in the distant future when what was once perceived to be a weed would grow and flourish in paradise. In those days, it was believed, one in the lineage of the former slaves would rise to be a king in the land of his masters. Though there is often a contention that Mr. Obama is not a direct descendant of the slaves, many Africans nevertheless believe he is the one talked of in proverbs narratives and riddles. The prophecies concur that at some point in his reign, the King’s heart will be full of sadness and desire to return to Africa.
'A Weed in Paradise' is a narrative of these prophecies in a thrilling a novel form. The author has however avoided the controversial prophecies which even the Africans themselves rarely agree upon. In Kenya, the land of Obama’s father, many await for the day he will return. It is believed he will erase the AIDS menace (Demon of Blood) now raging in the continent once and for all.
Unfortunately when the king returns, his wife having imbibed the ‘craftiness of the west’ will be married by an African prince leaving the husband devastated. This prince is speculated to be a powerful and much feared politician in Kenya today. The legend even gives his name. In the book the fictional president who is named William Obrien has to fight the demons of race that destiny has handed him.
