This fifth book in the long tale of The Rabbit of Usk records the events that follow our hero's immediate release from the follies and disciplines of the barracks. With The Rabbit's translation of Earthly Voyage in Timotei's carryall, our two Sphinx Sabeans leave Appleton School and head for the borders of Saxon Wessex where on the Fawler Road a little west of Kingston Lisle, near to where Alfred was born, they hope to make contact with JH. Events fail to transpire as anticipated, but the strange news while engaged in aimless wandering our hero was able to read Abdul bin Abdul's Earthly Voyage where he discovers that his grandfather might once have been a saint. News that comes as a great surprise to our hero.
