Agnes Grey, based upon her experiences as a governess. Agnes Grey is dutiful and loyal, the impoverished daughter of a minister. When her father loses the family fortune in an ill-fated business venture, she feels obliged to find employment as a governess to help the family income and to make ends meet. She works for the Bloomfield family at Wellwood House for a few years, and meets Edward Weston, a local churchman, with whom she slowly but surely falls in love with.
