Aldo Newman's physicist grandfather secretly provides Aldo with an experimental device, EDSL, he has invented which allows the wearer to travel into the upper spatial dimensions. Following Aldo's first day of middle school, he and his best friend Scotty "Skooch" Connors see the body of a man who has just been murdered. After being cajoled by classmates Anya and Belinda, they begin an investigation into who killed the man and why. Aldo explores a haunted house, takes on extra-dimensional beings, and relies on the EDSL prototype (along with his humor, wits and friends) to identify the man's murderers and attempt to bring them to justice.
