"American First-Fruits", published in 1889, is a record of a series of meetings held by "Dr." John Alexander Dowie across the state of California. This, being the second edition, is an expanded edition, which covers the entire eight months spent on the Missions, and also a record of time spent with a group of ministers explaining Dowie's doctrine, in his own words.

Dowie is a unique character, to say the least. Often, he has been railed as a heretic, but the results are hard to argue with, especially at this early point in his ministry. John G. Lake and many others were greatly influenced by Dowie's teachings, and many more were healed.

Dowie died March 9, 1907, in Zion, Illinois.
