Among the Blueberries is a novel - the author's first - and sequel to Purple Phoenix, the epic poem. This ebook version is a much revised edition from the original book. In this story, two generations after the events in the prequel, a family emerges from the wilderness in an attempt to integrate into society. It does not go well for them as one of them is committed to a psychiatric institution, and her baby child lost, due to an abduction by a caregiver. Years later, the child, now a young woman, finds her way vicariously back to her roots. She has a special power that seems to keep her safe until she is used as pawn in a populist faith-based organization. Her parents, desperate all these years, with the assistance of certain friends, never give up hope in finding her. The story weaves from past to present, Native America and the modern world, in a wild, sometimes surreal adventure. And hanging over the scene is the alien stigma of this family, as they try to become naturalized without drawing attention to their true heritage.
