Chicago is screaming. A narcotic plague has been ravaging the city for months, crawling through the population and turning the citizens into raging addicts. Both widespread and inexpensive, the drug is no longer exclusively poisoning the dregs of society, but has traveled up the social ladder to infect the sons and daughters of Chicago’s elite. Detective Preston Burroughs has been investigating the case, but with little to go on, the number of victims continues to spiral upward. More puzzling is the newest lead, a young woman apparently connected to the case who has committed suicide on the operating table by intentionally providing her doctors with a false medical history. As Detective Burroughs and his partner begin to investigate the identity of this woman, they discover an intricate and far-reaching network of narcotics trafficking within the city. While drug-related crime escalates and the hospitals near capacity, strange physical happenings are observed in several high-level traffickers who are able to perform impossible feats and are intent on crushing the investigation by any means necessary. Even more disturbing, these dealers begin taunting the detective with cryptic messages regarding his recently deceased daughter. Encompassing the boardrooms in the highest levels of Chicago’s skyscrapers to the darkest depths of the city’s basements “Arrival by Wrath” is an urban sci-fi/fantasy set in the near future. It explores the nature of addiction and loss against the backdrop of human suffering in a world which we all inhabit.
