Math Marren… is a widower living in the heart of New York in a two-story building with rooms over fifty out on rent. He is the next-door neighbor to Maila Augistone a young spinster who is a patient with a terminal heart condition.
He falls in love with her after an incident in which she faints inside her room. The result from the doctor reveals that she only has two months to live.
Math Marren falls in love with her out of pity but then he discovers that she looks very much like his late wife Christina Angers as such, the pity turns into love and he fights to get her to a doctor after he discovers why she is afraid to fall in love with him.
The discovery rather turns his pity into love and he is determined with the help of her grandma and siblings to get her well by getting her a hospital where, they could get her a cadaver for a possible heart transplant. The process is successful but her journey into the theater is not.
