Born in 1976 in New Orleans, Peyton made his impression on the football world at an early age while playing at Isidore Newman School, a private school in New Orleans known for its athletic programs. While in high school, Peyton earned national high school player-of-the-year awards. He attempted 761 passes, completing 452 (for a completion percentage of 59%) while throwing for 7,207 yards and 92 touchdowns. He was considered among the top three quarterback prospects in the nation in his graduating class of 1994.
Peytons college choice was the subject of contention amongst many fans and college scouts. It was widely assumed by many that Manning would follow in the footsteps of his father, Archie Manning, and take snaps for the University of Mississippi.
Peyton strongly considered Ole Miss, however, he took into account the offers of many other schools, including stonger football powerhouses. He was amused by Ole Misss reminder that he would be attending a top ten school for beautiful women. However, he was also impressed by the tradition of football powerhouses including Notre Dame and the University of Michigan.
