Mick Compton has lost his highly coveted NASA FRINGE job, and is facing a thirty year sentence for bludgeoning his best friend to death. Facing his long stretch in prison, and the absence of his two sons and an ex-wife he still loves, he’s faced with a dilemma—do the time and miss his children’s youth, or run a black hull smuggling op in a distant system, get a meaty reward, and pay off a connection with a standing offer to wipe his crime history from the UCA database.

The run goes smoothly until the ride home: Mick wakes up from cryo early, long before arriving in Earth orbit. He’s floating in dead space, no longer aboard his black hull vessel: he’s in an escape pod with only enough power for several more hours of life-support.

Mick is saved by a rogue android and discovers he’s now in a different space time, beginning a panic-drenched quest to stay alive in a perilous future and get home to his family, despite man’s known laws of physics.
