This tells the story of a small town boy who became a star baseball pitcher, was asked to sign a contract for the New York Yankees, but went into teaching and coaching instead. His claim to fame is having pitched an "almost Perfect Game", 17 innings that ended in a 3-3 tie. His poetry reflects the artistry of baseball and the players of the game.

Haiku is an ancient type of Japanese poetry with a strict form. It is an unrhymed three-lined verse: the first with five beats or syllables, the second with seven and the third with five. Each poem describes a single brief episode that may be taking place as you read. Traditionally each verse should contain a reference to nature or a season, expressed either directly or by implication.

This romantic adventure story, set in a picturesqu European country, begins with heartbreak and ends with a wedding. In between, a favorite horse is stolen, a handsome young quardsman is exiled, a princess is kidnapped, a gypsy horse whisperer gets his comeuppance, a band of gypsy women go on a rampage, and a wish comes true for an American teen-ager.
