His next visit, to his ex, would be more difficult. Pete was nervous about telling Lauren, but he felt as the mother of his daughters, he should tell her personally. He geared himself up for her response. She answered the door and seeing him standing there to see her, not their daughters, caught her off guard. He sensed some hope in her eyes.
Lauren was a beautiful redhead. The combination of her long straight hair and striking green eyes was a weakness it took him long to get over. He thought he could resist her now. She led him to the kitchen, and sitting with her in the same kitchen where they numerous times had sex on the counter, floor and every other place imaginable, made them both nostalgic.
Lauren poured him a drink thinking that he had come to tell her that he was through with Veronica and that he wanted her back. Pete knew he had to muster the courage to tell her that he was instead engaged. He let her pour him a second drink after downing the first one hurriedly.
