As a boy growing up in a home with republican leanings, Michael “Mick” Kennedy is radicalized while attending the funeral of young man in his community. When he comes of age he joins the Provisional Irish Republican Army (the Provos) to fight back against the bigotry, inequality and oppression faced by Catholics in the troubled corner of the United Kingdom known as Northern Ireland.

Years later, Mick has become disenchanted with the Republican cause. Too many splinter groups and rogue IRA cells are targeting civilians rather than military personnel. When the Good Friday peace agreement is signed into existence in April 1998, Mick sees this as a chance to pursue a normal, peaceful life with the woman he loves, Maureen McCumhal.

However, his long and trusted involvement with the Provos means he has valuable knowledge in his head. Knowledge for which others are willing to kill. When his family and his future are threatened by those bent on ignoring the peace agreement, Mick fights back the only way he knows how.
