Cats are mysterious creatures. They creep about as silent as shadows and as invisible as ghosts. Their wills are indomitable, their motives inscrutable. It is easy to believe that they are engaged in secret, even nefarious, plots, and that they study us with cold and calculating scrutiny, for all that they pretend to be loving pets.
The morning after a severe snowstorm, Eile and Sunny -- Team Girl -- find a half-frozen cat buried in a drift on their front porch. They take it to a vet, who finds an identity chip embedded under its skin. The chip leads the Girls to an abandoned factory, where they discover a mad scientist torturing cats to force them to reveal that they are sentient beings. She demands that the Girls restore the cat to her, or she will use them in one of her other experiments, a particularly nasty one.
Eile and Sunny have no choice but to comply if they wish to save their lives, and yet their collective conscience will not allow them to abandon the poor cat to its grisly fate. Still, how can they save both it and them from an adversary that sees them only as experimental lab rats?
