Alex is an 18 year old male who is captured by aliens on his colonial planet. He escapes after a ship wreck, and he makes his way to a settlement where all of the men are sterile, impotent and angry. Rather than let him become sterile, the King exiles him to a far continent where he makes his way to the exiled women's settlement which is in some lava caves. The women, who have been mistreated by the sterile men, must learn how to live with a kind and fertile male.
The sterile men's exile camp is nearby as is a settlement of helpful aliens. The women are essentially trapped in the caves. There are numerous conflicts with the men as more exiled women come ashore. There are numerous pregnancies and children born in the year that Alex lives with them. Then the nearby volcano begins to smoke and shake. Alex, the women, and the babies must find safety from the men and the volcano. With some help from the aliens, they get away in time.
This is the first half of the story. The second book, Ship World, will be published in the spring of 2014.
