Most people don't want to believe that children are capable of killing their parents; however, it happens more frequently than we can imagine. So, what motivates a child to kill their own parents? Research has indicated that there are three types of children who do the unthinkable. One type is the child who has been severely abused and cannot think of another way out of their abusive home life. Another type is a severely mentally ill child, while the third is an anti-social child. The most frequent offender is the abused child. When cases have been reviewed of these abused kids who kill their parent, it is clear that the children have killed because they could no longer take the conditions at home and they thought they had no other choice but to get rid of their abuser. These children were either emotionally, physically, or sexually abused, or all three. These are children that did not typically have a history of mental illness or serious delinquent behavior. Their final act of murdering their parents came about as a desperate measure to eliminate the pain and home situation that they could no longer endure. We explore the stories of three children: Clara Schwartz, Jasmine Richardson and Tylar Witt. All three murdered their parent(s).
