Choices is a story that most of us have been through-finding out that someone cheated on you. What do you do with that information? How does it affect you? Can you ever love again? That’s what happens to Abby Stanford, and that’s where the story begins. She is driving west, away from the hurt and the pain, heading for a place where she can lick her wounds in quiet and solitude and maybe find herself again.
When she gets where she’s going, she meets Logan MacKinnon, rancher, erstwhile vacation cabin purveyor, and one gorgeous hunk of cowboy. Abby creates a stir when she gets there; she’s not what they’re expecting and with her standing there in her designer clothes and fancy bags, Logan nor his help know how to react to her. Abby’s waters run deeper than outward trappings though. She may have come from Boston and a luxury lifestyle, but her youth was spent on a vast Montana cattle ranch, and she can rope with the best of them.
The attraction between Logan and Abby grows, but Logan senses that she’s hurt and doesn’t want to take advantage of that. He doesn’t want to be the rebound. As Abby opens up more about her life, her thoughts, her dreams, Logan realizes that she is the woman that he’s been looking for all his life. She’s the perfect woman to him, and with the pain she’s in, his fierce protective side comes out.
Abby wishes Logan would just stop being so much of a gentleman. Yeah, she’s been hurt but her daddy taught her to dust herself off and get back in the saddle when you’re thrown, and although her pride took a beating, she wants nothing more than to fall into Logan’s arms. He’s the type of guy she never knew she wanted, but now that he’s in front of her, she can see he’s all she ever wanted. She knows that Logan isn’t your typical cowboy, but he’s definitely all male, so she waits for him to make his move.
When he does, it’s all fire and heat and more than Abby ever dreamed of. Barriers are let down, they grow close, and begin the sweet fall to love. Abby loves life on the ranch, Logan loves having her by his side, and his adopted family-his hired hands-all love the two of them together. Days are idyllic, nights are hot, and happiness abounds.
Except…sometimes a snake shows up in paradise. Abby’s past comes back to haunt her and Abby and Logan find that although they are in love, they may not quite trust each other yet. At the very least, their communication needs to be worked on. Logan storms off, wounded pride and heart not allowing him to talk to Abby. Abby heads back to Boston, to her best friend, with new fault lines on her jagged heart. As each nurses their wounds, family and friends work to mend the breach and the horrible misunderstanding that tore Abby and Logan apart.
Logan realizes what a dolt he’s been-he should have believed in Abby. Abby realizes that she should have told him her ex was trying to contact her and would do something crazy like show up. They both realize they should have trusted each other more. Abby heads back west to Montana just as Logan heads to Boston to go after her. When he finds out she’s back in Montana, he heads to the only place he can think she’d be-her parents ranch.
Abby is just about to go to Logan when she finds him on her parent’s front porch. She listens as he apologizes, as he tells her he loves her then she’s in his arms and all is forgiven. And they live happily ever after.
