"Coal" is a collection of poems and drawings compiled from works created over the last 20 years. It is roughly chronological—the first book being the earliest. The collection of thoughts, ideas, fantasies, experiences and points of view define an experience. These are attributed to various voices, from which characters are drawn that begin to outline a more vast, city wide experience, revealing a perceived truth, chaos, beauty, mystery. The drawings do not necessarily illustrate, as augment, a particular poem, as thoughts almost never truly corresponds to what a person sees before them, but usually come together to burn memories.
