David Herbert Lawrence (1885 - 1930) was the son of a coal-miner and a mother from a family with middle-class aspirations.
He was a poet, novelist, travel writer, short story writer, art critic as well as one of the most consummate playwrights of the twentieth century.
All of D H Lawrence's eight plays and two unfinished fragments are collected in this single volume.
Lawrence began writing plays while still in his twenties but contemporary tastes and attitudes to the portrayal of working-class life and sexuality on stage meant they were rarely produced and poorly received. It was not until the rediscovery of his plays in the late twentieth century that their quality was recognised and they now regularly performed.
