The Cloud – “the Ultimate Enterprise Solution” - many different explanations and opinions are available. This book intends to pull together the experiences of one company’s employees. It is not intended to be the end-all or be-all of the subject, but more of 30 years of experience in the IT world and how it all comes together in this new world of cloud solutions. The information contained within is only as current as a snapshot in time; we all know that the technology is ever changing – which means that from the data that we collected we made decisions and recommendations based on that time periods offerings of the technology. We would like you the reader and your team to refresh the data collection and make decisions based on the technology at that time. All information about the companies is only to be used as a framework, not a cookbook in getting your organization to the cloud. In whatever capacity you feel is best suited for your needs.
Our major reason for writing this book was to help other technology folks to overcome some of the challenges of how to get a company to a cloud solution. When we were working with a client in 2010 and 2011 to build out their cloud offering it was quite a challenge to gather the information on the best of breed in all the areas of the deployment. We decided after completing it that we would gather what we had learned and format it. We did not include the datacenter facility buildout as that is a subject all to itself, we had built over 20 datacenters since the late 90’s but this project went on to fill the datacenter up with a highly secure cloud offering. Where we had done projects for ISP’s, the cloud facility is the next level up from that and had some new challenges.
