Charles Montgomery Skinner was an American writer, editor, dramatic and art critic, mostly known as a collector and rewriter of North American folklore. “Crosby, The Patriot Spy” is a short story, entered in the collection “Myth and legends of our own land”. Dedicated to events of American Revolutionary War, the story narrates about Enoch Crosby, a poor shoemaker, who became an American spy. He served in Westchester County, further north near Lake Champlain, and in other areas. The intelligence he provided was used both to capture loyalists and undermine local support for the British, and on at least one occasion proved useful to the Commander of the Continental Army, George Washington.
