This is a tale of murder and greed on the beautiful island of St. Martin in the Caribbean. It starts with four New York golfers establishing a pact that lets them retire wealthy at age sixty. The devil in their plan is that if one of them dies before a set date, he loses all rights and the rest can split his share. The money is large – fifty-two million – and is held in a small Dutch St. Martin bank.
Weeks before the money is to be disbursed, one of the four dies while deep-sea fishing off St. Martin. Hank Tower, an ex-spy turned New York PI, is hired by his daughter to determine if her father’s death was an accident or murder.
Suspicion among the remaining three rises so high one of them promises to pay Tower a half-million dollars to keep him alive until the money is disbursed. As Tower investigates, he finds suspects everywhere.
There’s the Dutch bank’s owner…a handsome Caribbean cricket player…a seductive Russian beauty…a cunning currency trader…and each of the remaining three golfers. Each has a strong motive to kill one or more of the remaining three members of the pact. In addition, the law partner of the dead, deep-sea fisherman benefits from a two-million-dollar insurance policy.
The scheming begins in Manhattan, then quickly moves to St. Martin. It’s there where Tower and his lovely companion, Carol, find how greed and death may trump even in Paradise, unless Tower finds the murderer before he, Carol or both of them are killed.
