The trip takes a dreadful turn when meteors strike earth, turning the country and its population upside-down. During this mayhem, Brian and Chris stumble upon its savior, a broken-down standing barley building, known as Detrit. Its there Brian meets other survivors, becomes part of a group, and falls in love. Assisting with the rehabilitation of civilization, Brian, Chris and his newly found friends embark on a dangerous journey to sustain life and possibly reconnect with lost family and the rest of the world.
