After her drug-addicted mother dies, Miriam is placed in a convent by social services. For awhile, the sheltered existence is her haven. However, the safety of her sanctuary begins to stifle the day she comes across an employment ad for a caretaker in a local paper.

Like Miriam, Gertrude was an orphan. Now she's the sea witch. A long time ago, she saved the mer kingdom from extinction. As payment, she demanded the service of the mer king's second son—and every second son thereafter.

Cole is the third second son to serve the sea witch. He would do anything to return to the sea.

Dreaming of the Sea is a retelling of Han's Christian Andersen's "The Little Mermaid."

Once Upon a Time Today is a collection of contemporary fairy tale retellings for those who have already left home. The Girl Who Believed in Fairy Tales is a prelude to the collection and includes the three short stories:

"The Girl Who Watched for Elves"
"The Girl Who Dreamed of Red Shoes"
"The Girl Who Couldn't Sing"

Novellas in the collection:

Beautiful Beautiful
Dreaming of the Sea
The Tree Hugger
I Am Lily Dane
