For visitors to Italy, driving in the country can be a daunting experience, even for those who are used to driving on the right hand side of the road. The Italian driving experience is different.

The book is written in British English, but I have taken some trouble to include North American terms where I know the translation would be helpful. Also, I have included a section on the Roundabout and how to negotiate it, which I know American readers will find useful.

This Guide aims to introduce the visitor to the customs, laws and rules of the Italian road, with the intention of making the experience much less frightening.

For visitors from countries where one drives on the left, there is a special chapter giving experienced advice on how to adapt.

The subjects covered include the Autostrada and other road types; tolls; navigation; hazards; policing and speed limits; parking rules; towns and villages; pedestrians and more.

Rest stops are taken to discuss aspects of Italian life, such as shopping, the Bar and Pompeii. Other observations are interwoven with the text and a Miscellany chapter covers a number of points which the reader will find useful.

If you have never driven in Italy before, or have driven but still have that "What happened?" feeling, this is the book for you.
