Recent runaway Marley Kurtz is back home in Florida after a long road trip. He and his boyfriend Jesse get jobs, move into a loft above a mechanic’s garage, and start living the good life. They don’t stay free for long however; Marley is eventually pressured into reuniting with the family that sent him away. Far from being disowned, Marley soon finds himself pulled in too many directions at once.
Along with his sister, Lindsay, and his boss’s new foster son, Tristan, Marley must figure out what kind of family he’ll choose to call his own. Will it be the parents who raised and abandoned him, or the friends and adults in his life who have proven they really care? It should be an easy decision, but letting go is never easy.
L.A. Fields is the author of The Disorder Series and My Dear Watson, a queer Sherlock Holmes pastiche. Her short fiction has appeared in anthologies of horror, erotica, and academia. Find her online at la-fields.livejournal.com.
"Don't worry if you aren't familiar with the label—drink deep and enjoy how Fields blends the frantic passions of adolescent love with the cruelty of real life. Savor her words, the hints of Cormier and Doller. Serve warm." —Steve Berman, Andre Norton Award finalist
“Dysfunction shows L.A. Fields at the top of her game. She has a great gift for creating believable, compelling characters, and they're a diverse lot! Her keen eye for singular detail draws the reader deeply into her world, and her beautiful-yet-realistic portrayal of neglected and abused teens sets her apart from other authors." —Bill Konigsberg, Lambda Literary Award-winning author of Out of the Pocket and Openly Straight
