This book is a compilation of Best Panjabi Short Stories authored by GURDIAL SINGH (Jnanpith Award Winner), translated into English language by RANA NAYAR, prof., Dept. of English, Punjab University, Chandigarh. He has won 'CHARLES WALLACE Indian Trust Award' and the 'Commendation award for Translation' from the British Council. Each story is finely crafted, refined and selected subject matter and language, a very lucid and easy to understand. These stories are based on the sensitive exploration of the psychological changes, which often result from the unequal interaction between village and the town. Also, how the winds of change sweep through the village ripping apart its secure and stable network of relationship, a grim and sordid drama of urban nightmare, equality real and perhaps more dangerous, that is slowly corroding away the very edges of our social life. In same stories, there is a definite revolutionary potential.

This book is definitely going to sensitive the readers about the issues that already are affecting or are likely to affect their lives, directly or indirectly. Also, it gives a loud & clear message to fight and resist against any form of oppression, regardless of where and in what form it is found. Last, but not the least, almost all the stories in this book appear to scream out that the acts of human deception, treachery or machinations are as common here as elsewhere. A must read book for everyone.
