Echo is a young elephant destined to succeed her mother and become herd leader. She is hesitant to follow that path. First, she must pass years of tests, starting in the Savannah Scouts. After their scout leader is chased off, Echo and her friends, Oodles, Speckle and Scoop, are captured by a smuggler. Echo stays calm through her mother’s words- You are my Echo, and echoes always return. They are transported in cages across the northern Serengeti with two bullies, Rascal and Ditto. Echo frees the group and uses her memory of landmarks to trace their way towards home. Along the way, they take in an orphaned animal. When they come across the Haunted Oasis, the scouts pool their talents to rescue Rascal and Ditto from a possible ghost. Echo emerges as the group leader and realizes that maybe she could be the future matriarch.
