This short skit covers the events of September 22 - 28, 1962. On Monday, September 22, 1862 President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This skit deals with how the news affected many people in the south.
The skit begins with an introduction, allowing participants to understand what life was like for slaves, and for the owners of slaves. Learn about the views of many slaves and many slaveholders in this skit. Participants get to relive the moment when the slaves and slaveholders first heard the emancipation proclamation, and understood that the slaves were to be freed in just over two months.

Ages 7 and up.
