Introduction

Over the years, we have seen different new words emerging as technology progresses, which became part of our vocabulary. One of which is the term ‘Friend-zone’. It is a noun that describes “a situation in which a friendship exists between two people, one of whom has an unreciprocated romantic or sexual interest in the other”, according to a formal definition by the Urban Dictionary.

Simply, to some, it is an extremely awkward situation where one finds himself in which the other person they wanted so bad romantically don’t feel something special towards them or can’t reciprocate their feelings. Although this rather complicated and uncomfortable situation has been there since even before the actual word was made popular by social media, it became more apparent today and people tend to show extreme concerns regarding it.

Some people are so consumed in being in romantic relationship that they failed to appreciate what the true meaning of being in a relationship and that is being valued as a person and getting the right treatment that everyone deserves to get. It is an illusion that the only way for one to become a “complete” person is to have someone in their life—someone who will fill whatever it is that they are lacking.

So, there is an allusion and it’s a fantasy, it's an illusion and that illusion drives us and the problem is when we’re all driven under that illusion, we tend to give our power away we do a lot for somebody and we never take personal inventory of what we owe what we're getting back.

When do take personal inventory of what we're getting back, we tend to feel guilty of things that we don’t need to feel guilty of as we give so much to that person we think we really deserve it. Being in that kind of relationship will make anyone feel that they don’t deserve to be happy and that every crappy thing that they are experience is the direct result of their own action, which is partly correct.

However, on the same note, whatever it is that’s been happening in your relationship probably because you let it to happen in the first place. Also, it could be because your allow it to happen by letting someone do that to you from the very beginning.
