The first chapter of the book examines identity through analyzing different theories. It also offers scholars' reflection on European Identity and makes a definition of European Identity.
Analyzing the failure of the Constitutional Treaty (2004) in the second chapter, the book provides solid evidence how rivalry of identities affects people's vote and, as a result, EU integration in general. The findings of the chapter may well explain why British voted to leave the EU.
The third chapter confronts European Identity with national identities of EU's member states. The last chapter argues about the existence of the European civic demos (similar to that of USA) which, at the moment, is so strongly expressed in the form of European Identity.
The book sheds lights on the evolution and role of European Identity.
