Walking Dog, a member of the Go-Shoot Nation is found murdered off the reservation. They don’t want the FBI involved. Inspector Strong is given the case.
The Inspector must have the local police agency give him the case which they are happy to do. The Chief of the Go-Shoot Nation in their first meeting fails to give the Inspector the victim’s name or any evidence from his house. It takes a day before the Inspector is given the phone number of their police chief.
The victim’s job was to be the gopher for the Chief and Council. He had no authority in any matters. Rage finds evidence that the body was moved off the tribal lands.
The victim’s last assignment was completed a month ago. He was carrying papers between the Nation, the Railroad, and the builders of the fence around the Nation. After the fence was completed, he did go into the forest for some reason.
Rage and patrolman Jones starts a walk in the forest at the place he started at. They have nothing specific they are looking for. In the forest they are attacked and chased by armed men with machineguns.
The investigation uncovers Walking Dog’s love of old maps and books of the west. They were given no such material in any of the boxes from his house. What does that mean?
Will Detective Rage be putting any pencils in the ceiling during this case?
