Festival of Lights is a romance between Lakshmi, a young dalit of the untouchable caste, and Deepak, a high caste young man, which takes place over the five day Hindu Festival known as Tihar or the festival of lights. By engaging in such a frowned-upon relationship not only are they risking their own social status, and that of their families, but they are possibly putting their lives in danger. Furthermore, Lakshmi's neighbour Gita is missing a gold bracelet and Lakshmi and her family are therefore highly suspect.
