Sizi’s mother hurts her leg badly and Sizi takes over the household chores. There is no water supply in the village houses. The people collect it from a river a little way away. The problem is, that there are crocodiles in the river!
Sizi dreads going to the river in case a crocodile pulls her in, but she has to, because the water in the house is finished.
She sets off early one morning, and when she starts to fill her gourd with water, something swirls and splashes beside the rock on which she’s standing. She’s terrified and drops the gourd, running home without any water.
Sizi’s mother tells her to report it to the government official in charge of their area. Whatever happens they have to have water, and Sizi will have to fetch it from the river. The government official takes charge, and later in the day he and a ranger return to Sizi’s house with not only the gourd full of water, but also good news that means that she and the other people in the village will soon have a much safer water supply.
