The men’s basketball team from a small private high school finds itself struggling through a dreary and uninspired season, when their coach is called away to attend to a family member’s illness. Enter a mysterious janitor, who not only accepts the reins of leadership for the team during that absence, but soon becomes a wise mentor to the team, especially to a talented young man named Matthew, who is essentially raising himself after he and his mother moved into town.
Through a series of five lessons woven into the frustrations and excitement of the season, the janitor offers biblically based messages that correspond to each finger in a fist, and together that fist helps his team to focus on and accomplish the goals of those willing to heed its lessons. The story ends with each of the players being impacted by and succeeding because of these lessons. The young men each carry their “Fistitude” into the world, apply it to their own personal and professional lives, dedicated to spreading the message to others as well.
