Living on a deep space colony, C. Alan Scott yearns for fame and fortune. For his entire life, he has lived in his father’s shadow and desperately wants to establish his own name. Hoping that an interstellar expedition will bring him just that, he plans to explore uncharted regions of the galaxy. However, he has to take corporate bribes and conduct illegal acts to make it happen. When caught, Scott is forced to depart early in order to evade capture.
Once safely away from the colony, Scott’s challenges are just beginning. An idealistic science officer and blood-thirsty mercenary commander threaten to unravel his expedition, which discovers the first alien civilization and with it, the most valuable resource ever encountered. Consumed by greed and regardless of the risks, Scott stops at nothing to acquire it.
Surviving capture, failed negotiations, and a massacre at the aliens’ capital do nothing to deter Scott’s ambition. Even a pursuit expedition intended for his arrest does not phase him. Unwilling to give up, he continues to pursue his goal of fame and fortune but at what cost? Scott must decide what means he is willing to take to achieve the ends he desires.
