Francis Bret Harte was an American author and poet, who worked in a number of different professional capacities including miner, teacher, messenger and journalist before turning to full time writing in 1871.  He became famed for his short fiction featuring gold diggers. Harte had mastered the genre of gold rush fiction, capturing the corruption and greed in nostalgic prose, with vivid descriptions of the myriad characters he had known and the wild new frontier lands he had travelled.
“Found at Blazing Star” is a short western fiction story. We present you the witty, sometimes heart-rending tale of frontier California. Ambrose Bierce called Harte's humor "incomparable," and the highlights of Harte's oeuvre helped establish the foundations of western American fiction. Now you have the great opportunity to get acquainted with one of his literary works! Enjoy the reading!
