A thousand years after Earth has been abandoned by most of humanity, the last remaining survivors across its barren surface are confronted by evolved humans who return from the distant stars carrying the seeds of their destruction. One of these survivors on the earth who has been molded by a lifetime of hardship is Winston Fatel: a man who leads a small group through the ruined world in the hopes of seeing the day dawn when something greater than the daily struggle of their existence will be possible.

On patrol one particular morning, Winston witnesses the seminal touchdown of one of the first ships to land on the earth containing these new types of human beings. And in almost no time at all, they quickly reveal themselves to be the harbingers of such radical change upon the planet that Winston and his allies will have no other choice but to stand and fight against them if they want to survive. What this sets in motion is a clash between two distinct species that causes an identity crisis for both sides, with each pondering what meaning, if any, being called human still holds.
