Hailey Benton, known as Freckle Face or Freckles, and Mia Neal, known as Blondie, are rambunctious girls with visions of detective careers. They open a private investigation company to start solving cases, planning to become experts by the time they’re adults. They launch a website and create a business plan, collecting tools of the trade. They have most of what they need and save their allowances for quality spy glasses.
A friend, Katy Watkins, disappears suspiciously from a birthday party in the park. Her mother is frantic. Police begin making inquiries and searching for the girl. Timing is critical in a missing child case, and Katy’s life could be in danger.
They should stay out of it, but Freckle Face and Blondie follow clues police discard to the bottom of their list. When they provide new leads they uncover to police, they're reminded to stay out of it.
If they do as told, Katy may die.
