We are so privileged to be able to read the Bible and learn about the amazing men and women who loved God and gave their lives to lead, guide and sustain the Jewish nation. Some were great leaders, others were mighty warriors on the battlefield, and some were mighty warriors on their knees. And one of these heroes is Daniel.

Most Christians know that Daniel was thrown into a den of hungry lions, but few know why Daniel didn’t get eaten. Daniel’s life was not an easy one; in fact, he suffered many hardships that most people today couldn’t survive. Yet through it all, Daniel never lost his love for God even though he lived in a nation that served false gods. He was mocked and targeted and yet, he was not ashamed to pray to God or to stand up for the truth of the God of Heaven.

Daniel was born about 500 years after King David took the throne in Jerusalem. As we learned in the previous book, From Shepherd to King, David was a man after God’s own heart. He brought the nation of Israel together and all the people worshiped only God. But over the years, the people fell away from God, and by the time Daniel was born, the nation was deep into idol worship and immorality. God had warned them many times to turn back to Him, but they refused. So, His judgment upon them was about to happen.

Daniel’s story begins when King Nebuchadnezzar attacked Judah and took the people captive. Many died, but those who survived became slaves. Jerusalem was destroyed completely, including all its buildings and the temple that King Solomon, David’s son, built for God. This was a time of great sorrow for the children of God, and it was a time when God rose up prophets to warn His children that His judgment would come if they didn’t turn back to Him. God gave visions to Daniel and revealed the future of the nation of Israel, and Daniel has shared those visions with us.

This book touches on the highlights of Daniel’s life and tells of some specific events that helped to sustain the Jewish nation. The story is taken from the book of Daniel, all chapters from 1 to 12. The meaning of his visions are not explained in great depth because they are too detailed to put into a storybook, but it’s all in the Bible for you to study. And this author encourages you to read and study them because they will change the way you think about life.

From Captive to Delegate will help you understand why Daniel was not ashamed to pray anywhere—and why you should never be ashamed to pray anywhere, either. As his story unfolds, you’ll be able to understand and relate to his feelings and his actions, and you’ll see why love can conquer all things. As with all the books in The Crown Series, Grandpa is reading the story to his grandson, and in this book, he has a lot of questions for Grandpa to answer that will help children, new believers and all ages to get a better understanding of this amazing Bible hero.
