Simon followed in the footsteps of his father and his uncles John and Michael when he entered Cambridge University after a very promising childhood in the West Country. He travelled across the world on his gap year-out helping to look after young people in holiday camps. Simon gave up a potential six figure salary in London to spread the gospel full time.
The world was his oyster but through a bad encounter with a male predator late one night in Hawaii, he was sexually abused. As he fled from this dreadful attack his mind was capsized by the horror of this. It wasn't long before he fell into the hands of the psychiatric system and into what he saw as the dark realm of two mental hospitals.
There he was given ECT and injections to subdue his mind. These were very dark days for Simon. He had found God and was just emerging from the shock and shame put upon him from the terrible attack in Honolulu. As he wandered down the long dark corridors of the psychiatric hospital far away from the wonderful life he had always enjoyed, his career up and gone, his health at risk and abandoned by all his friends, he saw little or none of his past life that had slipped away. He was surrounded by men and women with long term mental health disorders. It was a long and painful road for him.
I met Simon in 2001 when he was low and surrounded by lots of foes. Together we fought by God's grace to loose him from their grip.
He began his long trip back up, and now is moving on with God's plan for his life. He has always worked on the streets of Bristol doing evangelism through his most troubled years.
Now I believe his Victory is close at hand. At his hardest times he reached thousands for God and never lost hope or his great faith in Jesus Christ throughout it all. He has by God's grace overcome it all.
