From Maine to McMurdo by way of Mesquite is a collection of poems and a bit of prose. My wish for you is to read each poem slowly to experience the sights, sounds, and feelings as if you were with me while I did the writing. It wont happen with each selection, and perhaps not with the first reading; though there is definitely something for everyone in these pages. My first book, Art and Poetry from The Ice, was a small collection of poems done at McMurdo Station, Antarctica, and illustrated by a friend (who later became my husband); now thats a partnership! My early beginnings happened in a small farming community in Maine. I grew up with three brothers, two sisters and a whole community of friends and neighbors. Rural life was never dull. While I was in high school, our house and barn burned to the ground ... the good news ... no one was hurt, and my perspective changed dramatically. I have been writing poetry and prose for as long as I can remember ... though my collected poems only date back to early adulthood. Previously I would write ... and give the verse to the one who inspired it. My mother had quite a collection before our fire. As I travel, experience new places, and meet new people, I generally put my thoughts and feelings on paper. Hence - From Maine to McMurdo by way of Mesquite - I believe I am drawn to place names that begin with "M" because its the first letter of my first name. Also, I dont know of very many people who can run "M-M-M-M-s" together without thinking of something "yummy". With that ... Ill share my favorite phrase "Life is People" ... Enjoy ! -- ME
