From the Heart is a collection of poems that delves into the topic of mankind's relationship to the Earth and the life thereon, and his reliance on God. It also considers mans relationship with his fellow men and other life on this planet. Some of the poems are philosophical in nature. Most contain references to God and/or natural subjects.

For example, the following poem was written by the author to his beloved wife:
To the love of my life, my wife Sally Ann
Loves Redemption
My life was like a parched and arid plain
Shriveling my soul to a tiny grain
I was always very much alone
With none that I could call my own
When I could no longer bear the strain
Your love came to me like a gentle rain
As your love I came to know
The tiny grain began to grow
As love began to ease the pain
I knew that I had much to gain
My soul expanded to full measure
And my life was filled with pleasure
You became the center of my life
And I asked you to be my wife
Now many years have passed
So I know our love will last
Life is not as it once seemed
Because your love my soul redeemed
