Gambling can be a really relaxing pastime. It can take away a day's tension and worry and help you de-stress. If it is done to engage in recreation, to amuse yourself, fool around or just have fun then there shouldn't be any harm to some form of moderate gambling.

However, it is almost a certainty that anything that is fun and easy in life is almost too good to be true and is then more often than not associated as a vice. And so it is with gambling, easy bucks for a good time can tend to lead to an addiction if you're not careful. Too often we hear of many stories of many people who have taken the bait of big, easy money and their consequent downfall.

Excessive, compulsive gambling is a problem because it is destructive to a person's life. It affects their school or work, their mental and emotional disposition, their physical well-being, their finances and/or interpersonal relationships.

Problem gambling can encroach on anyone in spite of age, gender, race or social status. The first warning signs are:
*   They bet with money they cannot afford to lose
*   They borrow money against very dubious guarantees
*   The max out their credit cards despite the effects to their finances
*   They deny they have a gambling problem
*   They neglect and later detach from family, friends and work

Go ahead and gamble like the pros do. The old hands in gambling do it safely, moderately and sensibly.
